Unity

A Model for Reconciliation, Peace, and Partnership

Today we live in a divided world, walking through a minefield of polarized situations. National politics are angrily split down the middle. Unions regularly report that management doesn't negotiate in good faith. The United Methodist Church recently split in two. Even homeowners' associations have become contentious. Unity: A Model for Reconciliation, Peace, and Partnership explores how reconciliation and peace have historically been restored in situations like these, and many others.

About Unity

Are there deep divisions in your family, country, neighborhood, or workplace? Unity: A Model for Reconciliation, Peace, and Partnership offers a historically grounded and forward-looking examination of how deeply divided people have achieved meaningful unity during times of extreme polarization-and what those lessons mean for today.

At a moment when political, racial, economic, and cultural divisions threaten democracy and social cohesion, the book argues that unity is not naïve idealism, but a disciplined practice rooted in moral courage, personal responsibility, and inclusive engagement.

Drawing on the largely overlooked global work of the Moral Re-Armament (MRA) movement from the 1930s through the postwar era, the book documents remarkable cases of reconciliation across seemingly impossible divides: former enemies after war, labor and management, colonizers and colonized, and racial and ideological opponents across Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and the United States.

Its central thesis is that lasting unity begins when individuals and institutions commit to changing themselves first. Through truth-telling, apology, and inclusion-rather than coercion or shaming-divided groups can forge trust and partnership. Will you be a force for unity in your life and in the world?

  • “We live in seemingly unreconcilable times fueled by destructive hyperbole. In Unity Today, Dr Dent (Eric) embarks on a timely and hopeful journey through largely underreported recent history. This illuminating excursion urges the reader to consider focusing on doing the right thing even at the expense of one's rights. Our reward is a brighter more productive future. If not us who? If not now when?”
